m.o.t.e.s released
m.o.t.e.s., the minute object twisted environment simulation is now available for download and purchase!

m.o.t.e.s. is a toy, not unlike one of those "executive" desk toys that features a mix of sparkly sand and water framed between two sheets glass. As you turn the frame, the sand falls through the water, making various patterns. Only instead of just sand and water, there's a half dozen basic elements, and a matching set of "generators". And it won't make a mess if you accidentally knock it over and break the glass...

JSKit 0.1b1 Release
The first beta version of JSKit, an open sourced (MIT license) framework for embedding JavaScript inside Cocoa applications is now available at .

JSKit provides Objective-C wrappers around the lower level JavaScriptCore (available on 10.5 and 10.4 with Safari 3.0) and provides transparent two way bridging technologies, allowing you to call JavaScript objects from Objective-C and to write Objective-C that can be called from JavaScript (including both simple functions as well as full type-constructors). JSKit is designed as a layered system with "opt-in" capabilities, making it well suited to using it as a macro/embedding/scripting solution for a Cocoa app, with explicit "exposing" of your Cocoa code code to JavaScript world (preventing malicious JavaScript from subverting your app). Additional layers can be added to expose generic NSObject classes, and later versions will include the ability to write entire Cocoa apps in JavaScript.

JSKit also includes a simple command line interactive interpreter (for making JavaScript shell scripts), as well as utility classes for simple JavaScript savvy editors, and a fun little "turtle graphics" sample app (demonstrates how to use JavaScript as a scripting extension language in your app).

JSKit can be built and used by XCode 2.4 running on Tiger (with Safari 3.0 installed), as well as 2.5 and 3.0 running on Leopard.

Leopard Mania
While most apps should work fine under Leopard (and there are publicly available betas for quadrium2 and quadrium | flame), some Widgets will have problems - I hope to have an update for them sometime soon. Note that there is no plan on updating Widgetarium to support Leopard (since Dashcode is freely available).

In the mean time, I've switch my main machine to Leopard, and I've been going through and making sure that everything at least recompiles with the latest set of developer tools (only a couple of very minor problems so far).

Survived WWDC
Survived another year at WWDC, but unfortunately my main computer's hard drive did not - it failed while booting when I returned. Nothing is lost (except for my Safari book marks), but it is interesting to see just how go ones backup procedures are, and just how slow it can be to reinstall everything. And it is a good excuse to finally clean up my hard drive a bit as well, but annoying none the less...

Something fun this way comes...
Won't get into exact details yet, but something "fun" is in development.

Obviously with WWDC coming up next week, everything could change, so we'll see what is going on after that...

cool technologies
Now this is, in now way, a product announcement, but I can say that both SVG and CoreImage are really cool. I can even go so far as to say that both with make their ways into various existing and future products.

dealing with quiet time
Thinks may seem quiet here at gandreas software (despite the massive amounts of snow that was dumped on my driveway last week) but rest assure, new product directions are being actively investigated.

Here's a little hint - think of it as an application add-on to one of my Widgets...

Which one? Well, you'll have to guess!
